KENOSHA ⏤ Over the winter months, it sometimes seems as though musicians, like certain other types of life on Earth, hibernate.

However, while cold weather has never been a friend of musicians, there are still plenty of local talented bands and songwriters hitting your local venues and open mics.
Public Craft Brewing Co. Wednesday open mic
Recently, I found myself checking out the new(er) open mic at Public Craft Brewing Co. My friends Maxwell Melendrez and Oscar Mercadillo of Spirit Shakers serve as the mic’s hosts.
Held every Wednesday beginning at 8 p.m., the mic is open to full bands and also solo singer-songwriters. For those who are nervous about going on stage for the first time, you couldn’t find a better duo to help you through it.
Not only are they both stellar musicians, but they are also calm, friendly and all around cool people.
Rustic Road welcomes your talents each Monday
While Kenosha Fusion offers a weekly open jam on Monday nights starting at 8:30 p.m., Rustic Road Brewing Co. has served local singer-songwriters well.
Local singer-songwriter and Would You Kindly? drummer Haven Wells hosts the Rustic mic. This mic runs weekly Monday from 8 to 11 p.m.
With Wells at the helm, the Rustic mic serves as a safe space for acoustic acts to hone their craft on a consistent basis.
For those who do not play an instrument but love music, Rustic is also a comfortable place to catch new songs from local solo acts.
Below, please take time to look at a few photos from the Public and Rustic mics over the last week.
