At the scene, they found a 2019 Volvo XC40 with “extensive front-end damage”.

According to initial reports, the driver of the Volvo ⏤ identified as a 35-year-old Milwaukee man ⏤ rear-ended a disabled semi-trailer stopped in the northbound lanes.

The Volvo driver died at the scene, the department confirmed in the release. Emergency crews transported a 27-year-old passenger, also of Milwaukee, to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. She sustained significant injuries.

The department has not publicly released either the name of the Volvo driver or the Volvo passenger in the crash.

The driver of the parked semi did not sustain any injuries and is “cooperating with the investigation.”

Deputies closed I-94 northbound at Highway 50 for several hours as they investigated the crash scene.

The investigation remains active.

The public is encouraged to contact the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department Detective Bureau with any information regarding the crash at 262-605-5102.
