Kenosha County to celebrate 101 years of women’s right to vote Sept. 8

KENOSHA ⏤ Next week, the Kenosha County Suffrage 100 Committee will be holding its celebration of 101 years of women’s right to vote on Sept. 8.

The event ⏤ previously delayed due to inclement weather last month ⏤ will kick off at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8. The Anderson Arts Center, 6603 Third Ave., in Kenosha will host the event on its lawn.

Admission is also free for attendees. The event will end at 9 pm. The grounds will open at 6 p.m.

The event is an outgrowth of the county’s Suffrage 100 Committee, according to a media release from the county. Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser formed that committee in 2019. At that time, he tasked it with organizing and promoting events honoring the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the county postponed the celebration to 2021.
