Saints Radio: Two songwriters to pass the night with

KENOSHA ⏤ Tonight, two local songwriters answered the Observer’s call to fill up this week’s edition of Saints Radio: Megan Jay and Dan Nielsen.

Megan Jay

Megan Jay is a self-described “musical hermit” based in Kenosha. However, this hermit has much to offer the local music scene.

The opening track, “Kentucky”, of her album featured below (“Louisa”) highlights the songwriter’s voice, which is rather smooth and lovely.

‘Louisa’ by Megan Jay

With a tone and approach that’s reminiscent of female folk musicians back in the 1950s and 1960s, Jay is an easy-on-the-ears, very pleasing listen. However, listening to the songwriter’s music is also a meaningful experience too.

For those who follow her on social media, it has also been interesting to see her development as an artist through videos posted of covers and original songs over time.

She certainly has talent, and it’s definitely worth following her at https://meganjay.bandcamp.com/.

Songwriter Dan Nielsen

While Jay is a younger musician, Nielsen is an older, more mature songwriter.

He’s a songwriter that’s, for lack of a better way of saying it, “seen some sh*t”.

Nielsen’s tone, lyrics and feel in the song’s featured bring to mind hints of various artists, such as:

  • Daniel Johnston;
  • Bruce Springsteen;
  • Leonard Cohen;
  • And David Bromberg.

And while tonight Nielsen comes across as more serious, if you catch him at a comedy open mic around Kenosha, you’ll find out he’s also a master of one-liners. So, he’s not always serious.

Please, take time to enjoy the work of both songwriters on Saints Radio, and support them however you can after.
