Local taverns reported several phone calls with this type of scam artist on Sunday, April 11. Interviewing owners, investigators learned these “deputies” said they were part of KCSD and also the “Police and Sheriff’s Coalition.”

“The caller would then advise that they would send a volunteer to collect the money,” a department release states.

The money would pay for school supplies for kids, Shop with a Cop or D.A.R.E., the caller told owners. Of course, the department says, this is a scam. In a release Monday, the department denied any connection with the organization.

In fact, the department asks residents contacted by the “organization” to call them at 262-605-5100 and report it.

Residents may also give information anonymously to the Kenosha County Crime Stoppers at 262-656-7333.
