‘Wisconsin 7’ kick off 22-day fast in Kenosha to support climate initiatives

KENOSHA ⏤ The group now known as the “Wisconsin 7” took their last bites before starting a 22-day fast on Thursday, March 4, to support green energy initiatives.

The group ⏤ led by Grace Lutheran Church Pastor Jonathan Barker ⏤ is fasting to pressure the state Legislature to pass Gov. Tony Evers’ climate justice initiatives in the 2021-2023 state budget.

Prior to the event, Barker had announced five other participants besides himself ⏤ Justin Blake, Joe Cardinali, Tory Lowe, Andy Berg and Jill Ferguson.

However, a sixth joined the cause before Thursday’s event.

Caliph Muab-El serves as the newest member of the group. He sat side-by-side with the other members Thursday eating their last meals until March 26th, when their fast will conclude.

Vaun Mayes serves as the group’s seventh member.

Wisconsin 7 to hold event Saturday in Madison

The Wisconsin 7 will next take their cause to the steps of the state Capitol on Saturday. A caravan to Madison will be leaving Grace Lutheran Church, 2006 60th St., for the event at 7 a.m. Saturday, March 6.
