The council approved the motion 14-3 Monday night, with aldpersons David Paff (Dist. 6), Mitchell Pedersen (Dist. 12) and Dominic Ruffalo (Dist. 16) voting against.

The extension, approved off of a resolution by Dist. 2 Ald. Bill Siel, extends the city’s current mask mandate until May 27, 2021.

Originally, Siel’s proposed extension lasted until July 31, 2021.

However, the city’s Public Safety & Welfare Committee moved to amend that date to May 27 before the issue came back before the whole council.

Huber family and Grosskreutz claims denied

The council also voted to deny claims submitted to the city by the family of Anthony Huber, who Kyle Rittenhouse shot dead in August 2020, and Gaige Grosskreutz, who was shot and wounded by Rittenhouse.

The council’s agenda stated it might go into closed session on the issue.

However, the council voted on denying the claims without going into closed session and without any discussion during the meeting.

The Observer will update this story will quotes, audio and other details from the meeting tomorrow (March 16).
