KENOSHA COUNTY ⏤ On Monday, Kenosha County officials confirmed the first positive case of the B.1.1.7 variant of COVID-19 in the county.
Personnel received lab results over the weekend confirming that the variant ⏤ known as the U.K. variant ⏤ had made its first appearance in the county.
Kenosha County Health Officer Dr. Jen Freiheit made the announcement Monday.
The individual tested positive earlier in February and has already completed the subsequent isolation period, Freiheit said.
Freiheit added that the presence of the relatively new variant here highlights the need to remain vigilant. This includes taking necessary precautions to limit the spread of COVID-19.
“We don’t know a huge amount about these variants yet,” Freiheit said. “That’s why we still need to wear masks, avoid gatherings and socially distance.”
County gives updates on clinics with positive variant case
Kenosha County Public Health clinics will remain at the Job Center during the week of March 1, Freiheit said.
As a result, those who have made second-dose appointments for this week should report to the Job Center.
“Plans for a new, expanded-capacity clinic facility remain in the works, the details of which we look forward to finalizing and announcing soon,” Freiheit said.
