KENOSHA ⏤ The city Police and Fire Commission appointed two new probationary officers to the Kenosha Police Department Monday.
The commission approved the appointments of Troy Damask and Alexandra Maykut unanimously during a special meeting Monday morning.
Both appointments will be effective Feb. 8.

Adjustments to fire chief job posting
The commission also made adjustments to the posting for the vacant Kenosha Fire Department chief position.
During the special meeting, commissioners, in an effort led by Leo Chiappetta, reduced the required years to serve as a captain or lieutenant prior to being considered for the chief position from 10 years to 5 years.
The reasoning behind the move being to attract younger applicants, several commissioners expressed.
However, commissioner Geri Cucunato made it clear that lowering the requirement does not mean having a less experienced candidate or someone who is still learning the ropes in the position.
On average, she said, climbing the ranks locally to the rank of lieutenant or captain takes about 15-17 years.
The commission will review and finalize the job posting at their next meeting.
